The game launched for PC, Mac, and Linux on June 25, 2012. It was initially created in 48 hours for the Ludum Dare 21 competition, which took place on August 19, 2011. McPixel is a game heavily influenced by the Saturday Night Live sketch 'MacGruber', which in turn was inspired by MacGyver.
